If the state agrees, changes could take effect for the 2020-21 school year, NorthJersey.com reports.
Hackensack High School has long absorbed Maywood's high school-aged students. The district's seven-year contract ended in 2017, though, and renegotiations have since cited high tuition rates, overcrowding and more, the report says.
Students already at Hackensack will be able to finish high school there if state officials consent to the new out-of-district proposal.
Becton -- already a regional district -- was chosen in a third-party study based on economic, demographic and academic criteria.
